PROBLEM STATEMENT
Microblading is a common procedure done for cosmetic enhancement of eyebrows and also in patients with alopecia totalis, trichotillomania, madarosis in hypothyroidism, chemotherapy induced hypotrichosis, etc.1 Microblading has undergone many advances, from the instrumentation to the technique. A microblading pen is a specialized instrument that holds the microblading needle.
The commercially available microblading kits consist of microblading pens, blades and inks which could be very expensive with prices going into thousands. Sometimes, it is difficult for a budding dermatologist with a humble budget to buy such kits.
RECOMMENDED SOLUTION
To overcome this problem, I tried to devise an easy method by which microblading can be performed using artery forceps. Artery forceps are a common and easily available instrument in all kinds of clinical settings. In this method, the microblading needle is placed between the long beaks of an artery forceps followed by locking the ratchet to hold the needle in place without displacing it [Figure 1]. This method would also help in performing the procedure with as much ease as with a commercially available microblading pen [Figure 2]. The strokes made with this device are very crisp [Figure 3] and the results are very natural [Figure 4]. So that way, we can customize our own microblading kit [Figure 5] by just buying inks and needles from vendors and using artery forceps as microblading pens while bringing down the cost!
This in-house device is economical and can be easily helpful in resource-poor settings where high-end kits are not available.

- Microblading blade held between the beaks of artery forceps and locked ratchet to hold the blade in place.

- Microblading pen with blade.

- Microblading strokes using the device.

- Final results.

- Microblading kit with the artery forceps instead of microblading pen.
